New Name — Same Community of Care & Support

We’re in the process of rebranding!

We'll have a new name but will be the same thriving peer support community.

Stay tuned for details!

Summary

We have exciting news! Our organization is currently going through a full rebranding process, which includes updating our name.

We made this decision because we need to represent who we are and what we do with a name that describes us more accurately. Some of our members who are also on our board of directors brought up this issue last fall during our joint board retreat, and we’ve been working through this process for the past six months.

Also, during our Discovery Sessions (focus groups) last fall, we got input on what makes CHARG unique — it was loud and clear that our mission is special, and it’s important for those experiencing mental health challenges to know they have a say in their own care and mental wellness journey. The need for rebranding and awareness building was discussed by a number of our supporters who attended the focus groups, and we want to share our message with more people.

A few things to know about this update:

  • We are NOT changing who we are, what we do, or who we serve.

  • We ARE keeping the names David Quarton Drop-In Center & Heartland Clinic for our facilities.

  • Our brand is healthy, there is no ‘bad reputation’ or anything like that influenced this decision.

  • We made this decision to describe us more accurately.

  • CHARG stands for ‘Capitol Hill Action & Recreation Group.’ While this is an important part of our history, we are more than an ‘action and recreation group’ since we are licensed by the state of Colorado to provide outpatient, mental health services.

  • A resource center is defined as:

  • A place which provides information, equipment, and support.

  • A facility which houses a collection of (especially educational) resources.

  • While we do make an effort to share resources with others who contact us and ask about them, we are more than a place that provides information and/or houses information. Our Drop-In Center does provide some resources (like food, clothing, free Wi-Fi & computer use) but when talking about our entire organization – CHARG Resource Center – we are really more than a resource center and want to make sure people know we provide mental health and wellness services.

  • We are honoring our history and who we truly embody by staying relevant.

  • We want to provide the best member experience possible. For some, CHARG resonates and is a warm, inviting name given the valuable experiences they’ve had at CHARG for years. For individuals newer to CHARG and not as familiar with our community, this name does not resonate or mean anything to them.

  • The decision to rename is proactive, and it was thoughtfully made. As an inclusive community, we care about the opinions and experiences of our members and supporters, and have included many of them in the rebranding process.

  • In our society, many people now use technology and the Internet to find mental health services. They use search engines (such as Google) to find resources. It is vital that we have a digital presence (website & show up on search engines) so that people can QUICKLY see and understand what we provide based on our name and brand.

  • Bottom line: we want to help MORE people. Right now, we are not at capacity. We need to build awareness and we want to attract more young adults, especially since many are struggling mentally right now and could benefit from CHARG’s supportive community.

Stay Tuned!

Over the past six months, we have been in the process of rebranding and gathering input from CHARG members, supporters, staff, board members, as well as external community members. Our boards of directors will be making the final vote on the new name for CHARG Resource Center in the near future, and we’ll be launching a new name and logo this summer. Stay tuned for details!

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Who brought up the idea to change our name?
Answer: CHARG board members (individuals who utilize CHARG Drop-In and/or Clinic programs and services).

{Background / more details} Last fall, we had a joint board retreat where we discussed our values, mission, vision, and the language we use to describe ourselves.

During this retreat, a couple of CHARG board members also brought up that CHARG Resource Center is a confusing name and that it can be difficult to tell others who we are without getting into a long, convoluted conversion. For example, explaining what the acronym CHARG stands for but also explaining that we’re more than a recreation group and that we are more than a resource center since we provide mental health services.

Other board members shared similar experiences, so this was when we (staff/leadership) decided to do further research and move forward with discussions around this renaming process.

Question: What is the new name going to be?
Answer: We are in the final stages of deciding a new name, and we’ll share the news soon!

Question: I have a question that isn’t listed here. Who can I contact for more information?
Answer: You can contact Danelle Herra, Manager of Development & Community Outreach, at dherra@charg.org or 303.830.8805, ext. 113.
