Chico Sierra

Originally from El Paso TX, visual artist Chico Sierra relocated from his familial homeland to the Midwest. Chico works to connect the dots of his cultural history and create new stories rooted in humanism, class, and social justice. Influenced by his interest in social sciences and spiritual iconography, he develops narratives using symbolism long clouded by colonialism and appropriated by Eurocentric new age spiritualism. Chico has exhibited widely, with work shown and collected by the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. He has spoken on cultural appropriation at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, where he was a featured artist during their Picasso exhibit and contributes yearly to their Day of the Dead collaboration with Mattie Rhodes.
