Reflecting on 2022

What a year 2022 has been!

Our community went through a lot this year, including a number of positive successes as well as some challenges. As we reflect on 2022, we have many things to be grateful for and that is because of the continued support from YOU - community members and organizations who believe in our mission and want to empower individuals managing chronic mental health conditions.

Some highlights of the past year:

  • Underwent a full name change and rebranding process from CHARG Resource Center to Heartland Mental Health, including a new logo, and new tagline.

  • Launched a new website (and this blog!), and an online form for people interested in our clinic services.

  • Updated our mission and vision statements. Reworked our organization chart, and revised staff roles to reflect the new changes.

  • Hired our current Executive Director, David Barnes, and wished our Interim Executive Director, Jim Goebelbecker, well in his next endeavors.

  • Held the return of our 'Friends @ Heartland Breakfast' to an in-person event, as well as the induction ceremony of new members into our Honorary Council: Betty Bona & Philip Pearlman, Annie Lee, and Diane Lighthall.

  • Led 19 peer groups at our drop-in center or clinic, including Adventures Group, Music Group, Cooking Group, In This Together, Hiking, Writing Group, and more. We're starting some new groups in January!

  • Our Speakers Bureau program returned (was on a hiatus during the pandemic), and a few of our members spoke at our breakfast event and for a university class.

  • We were excited about the return of in-person service learning with students from Dr. Randi Smith's class from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

  • Our Member Board revived our member newsletter, formerly known as the Rainbow Express, now called the Heartland Express. Check out the latest edition here.

  • Hired a new Marketing & Development Manager, Shannan Swaim, as Danelle Herra transitioned to our Volunteer & Community Outreach Manager.

  • Our organization participated in trauma-informed training sessions. We also implemented new surveys and data collection, where it was found that:

    • 95% of clients feel they're given the opportunity to contribute to their growth,

    • 90% of clients would refer a friend for services at Heartland Mental Health,

    • 90% of clients feel their input on their wellness is valued.
